How To Care For Your Tallow

Our tallow products are made the traditional way, using only oils and no added water. Because the formulas are completely oil based, we don’t need preservatives, parabens, or anything synthetic to keep them fresh. This keeps the product as natural and pure as possible.

Think of tallow as true food for your skin. It is a nutrient-dense feast of vitamins A, D, E, and K. Because it is a raw, bio-identical superfood without synthetic stabilizers, how you care for your tallow is just as important as how it cares for you.

Tallow is naturally shelf stable and stores beautifully on its own. For the longest shelf life, keep your jar in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. Proper storage ensures these delicate vitamins stay potent and active.

IMPORTANT:

One of the most important things you can do is keep water out of the jar. Since the product doesn’t contain water, even a tiny drop can affect the texture or shorten its shelf life. Always scoop with clean, dry hands, or use a spatula to keep it pristine. Treating your tallow gently helps it stay fresh and stable for many months.

Once opened, your tallow is best used within 6 to 12 months, depending on how it’s stored and how carefully it’s kept free of moisture.

Because tallow is an oil, it may soften or melt during warmer weather. This is completely natural. If your tallow melts, simply place the jar in the fridge for a little while. It will firm back up, and although the texture may shift slightly, its quality and benefits remain the same.

FAQ's

Did it arrive soft?

If your tallow spent time in a warm delivery truck, it may be soft or liquid. This is normal! Simply place the jar (upright) in the fridge for 2 hours to reset the texture. Once solid, let the jar sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before opening; this prevents condensation from forming inside. To maintain purity, store in a cool, dry place and always apply with clean, dry hands.

What if some water accidentally gets into my tallow?

Since our tallow is 100% natural and free of synthetic preservatives, moisture is the enemy! If you see a small drop, carefully remove it and the surrounding tallow with a clean spoon. To maintain the purity of your jar, always use dry hands or a clean spatula.

Can tallow develop a grainy texture?

Yes, sometimes tallow may appear slightly grainy, especially if it has cooled after melting. This is completely normal and does not affect the product’s quality. Gently warming it in your hands or letting it sit at room temperature will smooth it back out.

Can I store tallow in the bathroom?

Yes! That being said, to keep your tallow fresh and effective, store your jar in a cool, dry place and ensure the lid is tightened securely after every use. Because our formula is purely natural and free of synthetic preservatives, steam and condensation from showers can introduce moisture that may lead to spoilage. Keeping your jar "water-free" protects the integrity of the tallow and ensures it stays shelf-stable and skin-safe for as long as possible.

Why does my tallow melt sometimes?

Tallow is an oil, so it naturally softens or melts when warm. This is normal and doesn’t harm the product. Refrigerate briefly if you want it firm again.
